What better way to celebrate the last beautiful days of summer than by attending festivals offered by the numerous cultural communities of our beautiful city. One such event, the 11th Annual Ukrainian Festival, highlighting this community's contribution to Quebec and Canadian society, was held this past week-end. So join me on a photo tour of this wonderful three day event held where else but .......Ukraine St., in Montreal.
A great turn out for the festivities on a warm and sunny Saturday afternoon

Hi Anna,
ReplyDeleteWhat great pictures! Even the Barbie dolls were dressed up in ethnic costume. Imagine having to make miniature perogy, I would really be all thumbs after that production.
Ann
I missed the on here this weekend so am living vicariously through this lovely posting. Love the eggs, the exquisite "peasant shirts" and always the food!
ReplyDeleteClaudia, I'm happy you were able to visit the Montreal Ukrainian Festival via the blog post. It was truly a feast for all the senses.

ReplyDeleteHi Quay Po,
ReplyDeleteThanks, I was worried about boring people with too many photos but my husband felt it was a good idea not to edit too much,in order to give readers a better feel of the day. I'm sure you would have also loved all the booths with jewelry, paintings and embroidery work.
Anna
Hi Shanti, thanks for dropping in. It's so nice to meet you. I'm happy you enjoyed the post.
ReplyDeleteAnna
That looks like so much fun! I love those dolls within dolls. Forgot what they are called :(
ReplyDeleteHi Rick, Thanks for dropping by. To answer your question, the dolls in question are Russian nesting dolls, called Matryoshka and according to our friends at Wikipedia, the name is derived from the Russian female 1st name;Matryona. They are also better known as babuska dolls (grandmother).

how fun! My dad is Ukranian. Love the food!!! I should make my way back to Montreal one of these days: visited the city 2 years ago and really enjoyed it.
ReplyDeleteHi Olga,
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting the blog,I'm so glad you enjoyed the photos. Hope you do make it back to Montreal. It is such a fun place in the summer. I'm convinced we must be the festival and party capital of North America. You barely start one and another begins. Thank goodness for the French "joie de vivre" present in Montreal.

Loved the photos! Wish I could have joined you there. And by the way, Mike keeps reminding me about the scrumptious looking apple flan you posted :-) Not so subtle hints about wanting to have one of his own.
ReplyDeleteMarilyn
Hi Marilyn,
ReplyDeleteThanks and just in case you two don't get around to making the recipe, please tell Mike that there will be an apple flan waiting for him on your next visit to Montreal.
Hi everyone,
ReplyDeleteI visited with my husband who ate 2 plates of pierohy and more!
Does anyone know if the Barbies in Ukrainian outfits are available for sale in Montreal somewhere?
Thanks in advance!
